February 18 – 21

This has been another exciting week! I finalized the Teen Tech Week programming schedule, and I am really looking forward to putting together a bulletin board and display next week.  The TTW schedule is as follows:

Monday: Teen Advisory Board interest meeting (3:00 – 4:00)

Tuesday: Showing of Iron Man (3:00 – 5:00)

Wednesday: “Low-Tech” Gaming (3:00 – 4:30)

Thursday: Showing of Transformers (3:00 – 5:30)

Friday: Super Smash Brothers Brawl Wii Tournament with the winner receiving a gift card to a Pizza Restaurant for Pi Day!

Since Teen Tech Week falls on the Columbus School District’s Spring Break this year, I’m not entirely sure how high attendance will be, so I will probably have another TAB interest meeting at a later date, in order to have more participants.  I plan to have snacks at the meeting, and I plan to cover what the teens are interested in (book wise), what they’d like to have for future programming, and any other areas of interest they may have.  I chose Iron Man as one of the movies because I think it’s a great movie that has a technology aspect to it, along with the DIY aspect that is this year’s TTW theme.  I chose Transformers because it is also pretty tech-heavy and is a good teen movie.  The “low-tech” gaming program was chosen to provide the teens with the contrast between video games and board games like monopoly.  I chose to Super Smash Brothers Brawl for the Pi Day tournament because it allows four players at a time, has a tournament setting, and is a fun way for the kids to have tournaments without being violent.

I have also been shelving, organizing shelves, and covering newly cataloged books this week.  Shelving and organizing the books has been helping me to familiarize myself with what the teen collection has to offer.  Covering the newly cataloged books has given me the chance to sort of flip through the new books to help me familiarize myself with those as well.  I am really excited about putting out the new books, and I have been suggesting them whenever anyone asks me about books they should read.  My right hand is also extremely sore from using scissors so much in the past few days.
